Early Years Foundation Stage

The Understanding Christianity units support Early Years practitioners teaching about Christianity in EYFS settings, laying the foundations for children’s understanding at the start of school.

Written by Helen Matter, RE adviser in the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, these resources have been extensively trialled with EY practitioners. They offer ways of contributing to Early Learning Goals, encouraging excellent and creative teaching by giving practitioners confidence with the subject knowledge required, as well as a range of tried and tested activities for the classroom.

Resources for the EYFS classroom are integrated within the units, including the use of persona dolls to articulate Christian experience as part of teaching and learning.  Scripts are given for using the persona dolls, as well as detailed suggestions for enhanced classroom provision.
